The standard Lizard Show Cage is of the box type with a wire front and a sloping roof. It is made of wood 3/16th” (4mm) thick and is painted gloss black or wrapped in black vinyl outside and Dulux Summer Blue inside (Mixing code is 1619 B 16G).

The height at the front is 12″ (305mm), at the back it is 9 3/4″ (248mm). The length is also 12″ (305mm) and the depth from front to back is 4 1/2″ (114mm). All measurements being outside ones.

The cage is fitted with a circular door on the right hand side facing you, which is 3 1/2″ (89mm) in diameter and hinged at the top. The lowest point of the door is 3″ (76mm) from the floor.

Inside the cage, on the same side as the door is a feeding trough fitted to the floor. It is 1″ (25.5mm) high and 1 1/2″ (38mm) wide at the bottom.

For fixing the wire front there is a strip of wood at the top of the cage 1″ (25.5mm) wide and another 1 3/4″ wide at the bottom.

The wire front is made of four strips of punched bar with 9″ (229mm) between the the top and bottom ones, the two supporting one being each 1 1/2″ (38mm) away from the top and bottom respectively. To fit comfortably inside the cage these strips should be approximately 11 1/2″ (292mm) in length and this will allow for the 18 wires which are 5/8″ (16mm) apart, centre to centre. A drinking hole should be provided in the centre, at the bottom of the wire front.

The standard drinker is the two hook show cage drinker. The exhibitor may also use a small 10ml tubular (medicine) drinker with a black base and clear top thought the black ‘D’ cup drinker is still the preferred option. The choice of drinker rests with the exhibitor. The exhibitor can opt for either one of the options or both. If the 10ml medicine drinker is used it is to be positioned between the 2nd and 3rd bars on the left front of the cage

The perches should be 1/2″ (12.5mm) x 3/8″ (9.5mm) softwood with edges rounded and front end chamfered.

The floor covering is white blotting paper or other white absorbent paper.
